About This Tutorial

This tutorial offers insights on some of the challenges when designers work with and for institutions. In this session, Professor Marcus Foth translated some theoretical concepts from design research, such as institutioning, into avenues for new sets of UX practice, such as intermediation. Therefore, this tutorial was suitable for both junior and senior interaction and UX designers who often find themselves working for government and industry clients, and academics who want to keep up with the current trend and research in UX.

Testimonials

“This Master Tutorial session, led by Professor Marcus Foth, was very useful to me in thinking about the ‘how’ of engagement with Industry & Government. The session was very well facilitated with plenty of value-added engagement with others that leveraged the capabilities of contemporary digital environments. Due to organisational policies and government protocols, institutional constraints will always be there shaping the way we engage. Accepting this ‘problem’ allows us to be creative. Identifying effective strategies that deal with these constraints was the focus of this session. For me, this session provided another conceptual framework through which to understand and appreciate the pivotal role of ‘user experience’.”

"I underestimated the Master Tutorial before the workshop started as it was only two hours, but I really learned a lot during the workshop. Doing the pre-course and post-course really enhanced my understanding of the topic. Great lesson learned from the expert. Two thumbs up."
